I am privileged to serve as the leader of a 60-year-old state-funded academic institute dedicated to geology and geoscience in Mongolia and the Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) region. I extend my sincere gratitude to all collaborators and colleagues whose extensive expertise and dedication foster the development of enduring friendships and partnerships. I also wish to acknowledge the contributions of those who have played a significant role in our institute's history and growth.
The operational framework and research activities of the Institute of Geology under the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), are governed by national legislation, regulatory standards, and administrative directives. This ensures compliance with established legal requirements.
This organic statute codifies the status of the MAS as the apex, state-backed, yet civilly self-governing and non-commercial scientific research body in Mongolia. It defines the legal parameters of subsidiary research bodies, explicitly detailing the autonomy of the Institute of Geology, its relationship to the MAS General Assembly, and the regulatory procedure for appointing branch directors under Ministerial oversight
This legislation dictates the macro-level organizational architecture of all domestic scientific enterprises. It establishes the mandatory frameworks for evaluating peer-reviewed scientific projects, allocating competitive state-budget resources, and aligning basic geological research with national long-term development strategies.
This law defines the legal basis for state support and financing aimed at commercializing new knowledge and ideas, and developing market-competitive products and technologies.
The Strategic Plan of the MAS for the 2026–2030 period serves as the master blueprint guiding the nation's multidisciplinary scientific research and high-technology evolution. Structurally, it acts as a meso-level intermediary that translates the country's national legislation—such as the Law on the Legal Status of the MAS—into actionable outputs to directly fulfill Direction 8 (Science, Technology, and Artificial Intelligence) of the state’s Five-Year Development Guidelines (2026–2030) and Phase III of Vision-2050.
The Strategic Plan of the Institute of Geology, under the auspices of the MAS, serves as a comprehensive institutional roadmap for the 2026–2030 period. This plan is meticulously designed to align with Phase III of the Mongolia Sustainable Development Vision 2030 and the government’s newly submitted Five-Year Development Guidelines (2026–2030). By integrating its research objectives directly into the master Strategic Plan of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Institute formalizes a unified approach to advancing national science, technology, and economic security.
In the context of academic and administrative law, the Internal Regulations of the Institute of Geology establish the primary legally binding framework that directs the institution’s daily operations, maintains workplace discipline, oversees resource utilization, and upholds specialized research ethics.
The Institute of Geology warmly welcomes international and domestic research institutes, academic organizations, and industry partners for scientific collaboration.
