Joint Field Trip

The Institute of Geology (IG) at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, in partnership with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), successfully concluded a landmark joint geological field trip designed to foster international scientific exchange and mentor the next generation of geoscientists.

U.S. delegation

The U.S. delegation, comprising 17 professors and students, was led by Professor Claire, a seasoned researcher with extensive global fieldwork experience. This collaborative initiative specifically focused on encouraging and developing early-career geoscientists by offering them direct exposure to collaborative, cross-border research methodologies.

Mongolian team

They were joined in the field by five young geologists from the Institute of Geology who served as specialized field guides. The Mongolian team provided vital on-the-ground expertise, guiding the expedition through complex regional geological formations and highlighting key geotourism sites. Additionally, demonstrating this high-level support, Turbold Sukhbaatar, director of the Institute of Geology, alongside several prominent scientific leaders, personally participated in the field trip to enhance the academic exchange and explore future avenues for institutional partnership.
